Overnight on a Felucca from Aswan takes the award for top trip so far.

My two cycling companions (Dan Goodwin and Dan McDermott) are now spinning their wheels towards Lake Victoria, via Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda in search of the source of the River Nile. My daughter, Victoria and my wife , Sue have arrived for a short holiday. Here, Victoria is with our Felucca captain, Mohamed Abdul Korean, under the canopy in the evening. We moored by a Nubian village just south of Aswan, where we spent the night and visited a Nubian family home for tea and buying a few presents. The prices were very reasonable, and no hassle at all.

The obligatory dip in the river with my daughter, even Sue took the plunge and managed to keep her hair dry! I recognise those big feet Victoria. I have something similar!

Kitchener Island, an essential visit from Aswan for achieving tranquil rest in a well designed collection of trees and shrubs.

Our trusty crew led by Mohamed Abdul Korean. Find them around the Emey Restaurant on Aswan St, next to the river (east bank). It’s up to you how much you pay, but 45 pounds Egyptian per hour per person is very high stakes! We paid less. Egyptian haggling is highly refined to tug at your guilt complex. I’d love to see this team with Alan Sugar on the ‘Apprentice’.
