Getting warmer

By Alan Kimber on 09/11/2012

Today was another long day in the saddle. Although we left at six in the morning to allow three hours of relative cool, the mid-day heat built to over forty degrees and we fried. One more puncture for the Kenda rear tyre used by Daniel. That’s two each for myself and Daniel, but none for Dan Goodwin and his two Schwalbe models. I’m also using a Schwalbe on the front, which has stayed intact. My rear tyre is a Continental that came with my bike (Surly LHT). I will probably change the Schwalbe onto the rear for our last spin down to Aswan.

We have now arrived in Luxor, which has some of the most aggressive ‘Touts’ I have met anywhere, certainly in Egypt. Our hotel (Boomerang) is very good at an average level. Single rooms are £5 sterling, with free WiFi, plus a rooftop serving real beer! We have booked in for three nights, both to relax and see the many temples in this area.

Last night’s hotel. We haggled and paid £5 instead of £10 each!

Finally cracked and found some burgers after roughly 650kms from Cairo. Egyptian food is very good, but burger and fries did the trick this evening. The packaging was in Arabic and English, don’t tell the Gaels around Fort William!

Dan doing his Christmas shopping. Guess what my bags will be full of when I set off home and leave the two of them to head off into Sudan? Dan hopes to raise £20k for the Chesney Trust and donations are starting to come in. Egypt is just the start of the journey.
