Holidays

By Alan Kimber on 10/11/2011

Holiday photos under construction from Zimbabwe – Zambia and Botswana. Apparently the temperatures here can drop to minus 10 deg Celsius at night time. At the moment we are glad to have the benefit of air-conditioning!

Staying in Livingstone (Zambia) for a few nights at Jolly Boys Backpackers. Not a bad spot, very lively at the bar, but quiet enough in the bedrooms. Make sure to get a room with a fan and air-conditioning! They show Champions League footie and Premiership, so all in all pretty good! Local currency is Kwacha, but US Dollars work okay. Only the local Barclays Bank ATM works for our VISA card though and if you want $ you will need to go into the bank and get them over the counter. We have been over into Zimbabwe and US $ is the only usable currency, so go prepared with a fist full of dollars!

Everything from Bungee-Jumping over the gorge issuing from the ‘Falls’ to secluded safaris is on offer. Prices are similar to back home, so don’t expect a cheap holiday. We were fortunate enough to spend some time at Sikumi Tree Lodge in Zimbabwe on the edge of Hwange National Park, where we came across a solitary Cheetah and a pride of Lions on a night drive. The place is very tranquil and the hosts, Brian and Marleen do a great job and are very friendly and helpful.

  1. Great to look at all the photography which allows ‘stay at homes’ like me to enjoy your adventures. My thanks.

    Take care. Best wishes, Roddy.

  2. British Coast Cottages -

Wow, some really great photos from Zimbabwe. Particularly like the one of Victoria falls though from the Zambia side. Thanks.
